I did a couple hot and fast butts yesterday. Injected with 2 cups apple juice, 2 cups water 1/4 cup cider vinegar and 1 tablespoon of rub.
I liked it and will do it again.

How far ahead of putting the butts in the smoker do you inject them?

I inject just before they go in the stumps...I don't think I have ever injected more than 45-60 minutes prior to smoking. No real reason, I just do it this way.

I inject mine, when I decide to inject, the night before and let sit in fridge for the night. Have never done it any other way. Mike has the experience and the know so maybe it really just is a user preference. Oh yeah, I use Big Bob Gibson's injection recipe. Google it and you'll get multiple responses.

The more acidic (vinegar, citrus juice, etc.) your injection is, the shorter the time you want between injecting and cooking. The acids will start "cooking" or "pickling" the meat.

13Q, Not really experience...just the way I have always done it. Never tried your way. I am with Bob, anything acidic in the injection, not overnight.
Nothing wrong with a little experimenting! Try it both ways and see which one you like best. Nothing bugs me more than someone saying there is only one way to do something(not directed at anybody on this forum). Ok, off my little soap box.
As long as you are smokin on a Stumps...you are doing atleast one thing right! :D :D
