I assume that the majority of this area will be screened for ventilation and fresh air? You don't want carbon monoxide taking you down. Be safe.


I think the hood idea is a pretty good one. If you had an exhaust fan like that over an oven that you could turn on to help pull smoke away and out. I think without the hood, your metal ceiling would get pretty stained up. I would put the exhaust hood in tight to the ceiling, there would be no need to connect directly to the smoker stack. Just roll your cooker so the stack is under the hood and away you go.

Mark, this post got me to thinking about my back yard.
It's 7 feet to the neighbor's fence, on the lot line.

I probably won't have a ceiling of any kind, except the trees from the neighbor's yard.
I do have a couple of "PRE-pictures" that I'll post as I go along. It'll be a VERY slow process, because I can do very little of the work with only one functioning shoulder, but I'm going to do it "with a little help from me friends".

I need to have it secured at least, before the Monster makes it's appearance. ;) :) I live about 25 feet off of Old Cheney Highway which is the Old State Highway 50. :shock: :roll: :?

Sounds like you need to have all the materials on hand, the plans and then have a Stumps Party Get a bunch of young fellers over there doing the work while you are cooking them one great meal on the Monster (with beer of coarse)

:lol: :lol: :lol: I need the fence Before the Monster gets here, and before Baby Pinky and the Tailgater move in back there...Not enough room for a work party. :? Yes, I said 7 feet from the building to the lot line fence. :shock: :shock: Then, it's only 37 feet long. I'll have half of the "deck" finished before I find out if my heart will take it. :o :o :?

Mostly, it only takes money. The deck will be about $300 done in 2 stages. I have the materials for the first stage. The chain link fence (have to match existing) and gate will be about $450ish plus permits and inspections. The deck won't need inspecting or permitting but the chain link fence will. Go figure. :roll: :roll: :? :shock: :o

permits and inspections for a fence? what are they looking at ? We don't need any permits for single story decks ( not positive but I think second story decks need a permit) or fences here but there is a code that you can't build a fence more than 6 feet high.

So when you go in to get your fence permit, and they ask for plans, are you going to draw them a good mental picture? :lol: :lol: :lol:

Yep building that deck will be a good real world stress test for you. How do you plan on using a skillsaw or swinging a hammer with that shoulder of yours. It is your right shoulder isn't it? (you left handed?)

Bob, I have two rolls of 4' chain link fence sitting here at the house. If it helps in speeding things up for you,it is yours for the taking and I could probably deliver to you. Not a huge savings but at $75 a 50' roll, it may save ya some $$$$$. When you get ready to do it, holler at me and I'll be more than happy to come help but only if it is on a weekend and only if you cook, lol. The wife wants me to have an outdoor kitchen but that comes after the back porch is finished, the septic drain field replaced, the panelboard in the living room replaced with drywall, the kitchen remodel, etc, etc, etc, you get the idea. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Wish I was closer Adam. Septic tanks and drainfields is what I do for a living.

Ive always wanted to build a spot in our back yard for my cooker but that all takes $$$$$$,if i really had what i mwanted i'd have the car port ceiling raised so that i could get a enclosed trailer in the backyard and it would have a covered poarch to it but here again $$$$$.A aslb poured with pole barn type set up sure would make my wife happier fer sure :lol: :lol: :lol:

Thanks for the offer, but I just found out it has to be a 6' fence to match the existing it will tie in to. I just need to cut some roots to "Plant" one post, then I can build the deck. I have everything on the carpor for Phase One of the deck (plus that one post & concrete). The rest of the fence can go in after the deck, and after the permiting, etc. More paper work to please the paper pushers. :roll: :roll: :roll:
