Is it possible to have a leak from the cook chamber into the firebox? Just enough to light the grease?

Please let us know how or what you learn....
Can you post any pics of the area where the fire was?
Have you noticed any damage to this area?

I'm sure that Stump is busy with everything that is going on.
I would take some good pics of the inside of the cooker for him to use esp the areas where the fire was, above and below thru the firebox. They might not show us a lot but mean something to stump. Email the pics to the shop. A couple shots of the outside might help him identify the age of the cooker also.

Your fire is a new situation.
Is there any chance something has been damaged during moving the plat cooker?
Fire at left side of cooker sounds like grease build up.
Is there any chance the cooker is out of level? I check mine with a level both ways every cook. I also clean out the drain hole every cook. It becomes clogged usually after cooks with the cooling jelly grease...turkeys render quite a bit of fat.I like to use a drip pan with them when possible.
On my stick burner after a turkey smoke, 5 birds there was a puddle several inches thick and wide the length of the cooker. Again this was a stick burner but it was several 1/2 fans of grease that i removed.
At Stump class, he told me that he lowers the tongue end as much as possible when cooking on the plat. I haven't tried this yet but will on my next cook.

Have you lit the plat since the fire? I would lower the drain end and light the pit and observe.
Start with a smaller fire and work up to your reg operating temp.
Don't plan on cooking anything just see if it burns cleanly. Be prepared to shut it down if you have a problem. Close all the vents down and a fire should go out quick.

You are going to have to be stumps eyes on this. Anything you can add will help him diagnosis the problem.
I hope this helps in some small way.

Stump - Thanks for the call.

Cooked all night and here is what I found:

Put 12 butts on last night and cooked all night with no issue. Around 7am I put on 36 racks of ribs. At about the one hour mark I noticed a heavier smoke. I opened the door and flames came around from underneath the deflector plate. It caught the grease on fire, but I was able to put it out before lost any meat.

The cooker was leaning hard away from the firebox on my Platinum 5.

I think I need to clean up under the plate. (I know that will not be easy.) And see if that helps. I also noticed the grate that stops charcoal from falling under the plate is pretty much gone. I will need to figure out how to replace that one.

I will keep everyone updated as I find more out.
