I am going to be in GA next week to pick up an XL Stretch. I have never cooked on a Stumps Smoker, just seen them on TV, BBQ Contests, and here. I would like to pick up a couple different kinds of charcoal while I am in the GA area. What are the recommendations and where are the places I can buy when I am down there? It sounds like there are more choices in fuel the farther south you travel.
Thanks in advance!

Stubbs and Royal Oak are a couple of choices many use. Stay away from the Blue bag Kingsford, have not heard many good things about it.

I've found it isn't so much on the charcoal, but the wood you add in. Pecan, cherry, oak, apple and peach are some that come to mind.

I've heard great things about these guys:
http://www.fruitawoodchunks.com/

After visiting their site, just placed my first order for some pecan.

If there's one around, Gordon's Food Service ( http://www.gfs.com/en/store-locator.page? ) has their own brands of both lump and briquettes. I like the lump in the Monster and Tailgater, but I have to break up the larger pieces for the Baby Pinky, so I get the briquettes for Baby Pinky. 8-) 8-) ;)

Here's a link to a post I just made about wood:

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :D

I might have heard/read that, too. If true, they must require that Royal Oak clean out the debris a lot more than Royal Oak does for their own brand. At least so far, I haven't found any metal scraps, fiberglass insulation, and only one 1/2" Moon Rock mixed in. That doesn't mean it won't happen, but so far...Also, the chunks are larger than with the RO Branded stuff. Though that might be the fault of the delivery system (Wally World, etc.). Of course GFS might only use their own people for transportation to and from, so they might take more care with their own branded products more than commercial carriers??
