got a new torch to light the smoker , works a lot better and much smaller than the weed burner . the tip is small enough to go between the grates and lights it much faster with the constant flame which got my Junior up to temp in 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes . Big Is Not Always Better and it is a lot smaller to haul around .

Hey thanks for posting this! I ran out of gas in my weed burner and then used a small plumping torch like that but struggled a bit to get it to stay up in the grate. Did you add that hose? Is that something easily available at the homedepot? And how long do you let it go on the coals?

I have only ever used a plumbers torch, the hose is a great idea, I'm going to have to look around for one.

yes it is a extension hose you can add so you can keep the torch on the ground away from the heat when lighting . I bought the torch and propane kit from my local Home Depot for around $50 but was well worth it . I just stuck in a hole in the grate and it will hang up there but you haft to make sure the flame of the torch is not restricted and I let it go for 3 minutes and the coals were already glowing , then just close it up and start the Guru .

Redneck I have a stack of Hickory cut like your pile of wood, I got mine from a bbq restaurant years ago, I just saw mine down to small chunks for my XL baby and Nice burner, I still use a weed burner myself, I don't use my propane grill to often so I have lots of fuel in my tank lol

I like the extension. I've always used a plumbers torch but MAPP gas instead of propane. I let it hang in the grate while setting everything else up that I need at the time. Typically about 1.5 beers for coals to be lit.
